Masjid As-Salaam

Historic Grade II Listed Mosque in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury

Welcome to Masjid As-Salaam

Masjid As-Salaam is a Grade II listed heritage mosque located in the heart of Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Our beautiful mosque serves the local Muslim community with daily prayers, Jumu'ah services, and a range of educational and community programmes.

Originally built in 1845 as a Church of England school, this stunning Victorian building was lovingly restored and converted into a mosque in December 2022. The first adhan was called 177 years after the building was originally constructed, marking a new chapter in its rich history.

The name "As-Salaam" means "The Peace" — one of the beautiful names of Allah (ﷻ). It was bestowed upon our Masjid by the late Hazrat Mufti Musa Badat Sahib (Rahimahullah), whose vision and guidance made this community project possible.

Daily Prayer Times

We offer five daily congregational prayers (Salah) including Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. Our prayer times are calculated for Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (WF12 8JJ).

Our Story

The History of Masjid As-Salaam

A Brief History

Earlsheaton As-Sabeel Trust was established in September 2022 with the principal aim of creating a Masjid and Madrassah for the growing Muslim community in the Dewsbury East area. Located in a Grade II listed building with over 180 years of history, Masjid As-Salaam represents a beautiful fusion of Victorian architecture and Islamic worship.

The building was originally constructed in 1845 as a Church of England school, and 177 years later the first adhan was called on the night of 2 December 2022, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its remarkable journey.

Timeline of Our Building

  • 1845: Victorian Origins — The building was originally constructed as a Church of England school, serving the educational needs of the local community.
  • Mid-1900s: Sea Cadets Base — The building was converted into a base for the Sea Cadets, serving young people in the area.
  • September 2022: Earlsheaton As-Sabeel Trust was established with the vision of creating a Masjid and Madrassah.
  • 2 December 2022: Masjid As-Salaam created — The first athaan was given, marking 177 years since the building was originally constructed.
  • September 2023: Madrassah As-Salaam opens — Islamic education began for children in the community.
  • Present Day: Serving the community with two jamaat khanas, eight classrooms, a monthly food bank, and regular programmes.

Our Ulama (Scholars)

This Masjid and Madrassah was established under the guidance of our esteemed scholars:

  • Hazrat Mufti Musa Badat Sahib (Rahimahullah) — Who named the Masjid "As-Salaam" (The Peace)
  • Mufti Muhammad Saiful Islam
  • Moulana Bilal Ahmed
  • Moulana Sulayman Ravat
  • Moulana Ahmed Lockhat

Tribute to Mufti Musa Badat Sahib (Rahimahullah)

We remember with deep gratitude and immense sadness the passing of Hazrat Mufti Musa Badat Sahib (Rahimahullah), our beloved spiritual guide. On the 13th of Ramadan 1445 (24th March 2024), our community lost a towering figure of Islamic scholarship and spiritual guidance.

Mufti Sahib named our Masjid "As-Salaam" — choosing one of Allah's (ﷻ) beautiful names meaning "The Peace." His vision was for this place to be a sanctuary of tranquility and a beacon of Islamic learning for generations to come.

"We ask Allah (ﷻ) to grant Mufti Sahib the highest ranks in Jannah and to allow his legacy to continue through the work of this Masjid and Madrassah."

Our Teachers

Our Madrassah and weekly programmes are led by dedicated local scholars:

  • Moulana Muhammad Umarji — Leads Tarbiyyah Tuesday sessions
  • Moulana Huzaifah Dadipatel — Leads Surah Yaseen Tafseer on Wednesdays

Community Growth

Today, Masjid As-Salaam serves as a thriving hub for the Muslim community in Earlsheaton and surrounding areas. Our facilities include:

  • Two jamaat khanas (prayer halls) for men and women
  • Eight dedicated classrooms for Madrassah
  • Wudu (ablution) facilities
  • Monthly food bank serving families in need
  • On-site parking

Doors to Jannah — Ramadhan 2026 Appeal

Help Create a Warmer, Safer Masjid for All

Window & Door Replacement Campaign

This Ramadhan 2026, Masjid As-Salaam is appealing to the community to support urgent upgrades that will improve the masjid's security, increase warmth, and reduce energy bills for years to come.

Why This Is Urgent

Our current single-glazed windows and ageing wooden doors:

Sadly, they are no longer suitable for a busy, growing masjid community.

"Whoever builds a masjid for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise." — Prophet ﷺ (Bukhari 450, Muslim 533)

What Your Donation Will Fund

  • Installation of modern, energy-efficient windows
